Happy Sunday ladies and gents! We are so excited that you have decided to pop into our blog posting today. This post is going to be all about making your wedding unique to you. There are thousands of weddings that happen every week around the world. Now, I retrieved that statistic from WedInsight, so believe it if you will or not. Either way, us Gals at Chestnut Ridge know that there are SO many weddings that take place in the “on” and “off” season. This year alone at Chestnut Ridge, we are hosting almost 100 weddings. That’s incredible! We are busy gals, but that’s just how we like it. So, if you could imagine we eat, breathe, and sleep weddings. Yup, you guessed it…I have had dreams about other couple’s future weddings more than my own future wedding.
We see a lot of weddings at CR, so we know what all the rage is. There’s only so many color palettes, aesthetics, and set-ups that exist in weddings. We get it can be hard to create something totally unique when everyone is using the colors white, sage green, and gold (or insert your vibe + color palette here ________). Throughout this blog I am going to reference the white, green, and gold vibe since that has become oh so very popular over the last couple of years. Even though it is super popular, our goal today to help you achieve a one-of-a-kind wedding that will be a direct reflection of you as the couple no matter what you choose.
Starting off this section to say, we LOVE Pinterest. As designers, planners, and dreamers we have to make it clear that we love Pinterest. It’s literally the best thing since Frozen Rosé. You can find so many helpful pictures that you fall in love with! If you’re like me, and know what you want something to look like but just can’t put it into words, you search your thoughts in Pinterest and see what pops up. Sometimes it is difficult to create what you want without having the tools to “rough draft it” right in front of you.
Pinterest is a wonderful jumping off point. Let me say it a little louder for the mates in the back: Pinterest is a perfect spot to START from. Meaning, just like every other media account, Pinterest is going to associate the most popular or relevant items searched with what you are looking for. If you search “white, greenery, and gold wedding,” you’re going to get the most clicked on photos. This is perfect to being your search, but not to utilize for your whole wedding style board. These photos have been circling the Pinterest world for years, even decades. We want you to have a wedding that fits in your style, but maintain a modern look. So, find a photo that you LOVE and start digging from there. Put on your waders, grab your gallon jug, and get to digging as if you are in the movie Holes.
Once you clicked on the photo you like, scroll down to the photos beneath it. This will pull photos most like this one. Then, click on another photo that you love. Keep cycling this way until you’re about 10 photos deep. Shia LaBeouf would be proud. To make your wedding unique to you, you need to see exactly what you’re loving. Okay, so we know you’re obsessed with the white, green, and gold vibe, but do you love the sage green or a rich darker green? Do you love an elegant, more ballroom style where the floral is perfectly rounded together and the napkin fold is so crisp it could cut your steak for you? Or do you prefer a more garden aesthetic that looks like it is out of a Hampton’s garden party?
These small elements are what’s going to stand out when you’re selecting your decor, rentals, floral, layout, etc.
If you’re not trained in the art of Pinterest, you can sometimes find yourself digging through copious amounts of dated styles. All styles do have their own place and time, and yes of course styles do come back around. However, if you’re wanting a day that is unique to you, you’ll want to keep the ideas fresh. I recommend checking out some other social media locations to get a brand spanking new look that you can mold into something completely yours! Instagram is the perfect spot for all these new and exciting in the wedding industry. Follow pages like @junebugweddings, @stylemepretty, and @modwedding to check out! These pages are constantly utilizing some of the most unique weddings and styled shoots seen around the world. Who knew Baja Mexican Garden Style vibe existed?!
Another media source of topic interest is TikTok! This media platform is quickly sweeping the world with new ways of seeing things! Videos are consuming; they spark interest easily. So, TikTok is becoming one of the most amazing wedding industry tools. We throw caution to those using TikTok for their wedding inspo. Mostly because unless you are following pages that specialize in weddings daily, you’re most likely going to end on on “at my wedding, we did this” side of TikTok. Many amazing ideas have presented themselves through individuals that have done things at their own wedding that was a little different than traditional. BUT when did they get married?
I have seen a ton of people share their wedding ideas on TikTok that happened at their wedding 5-10 years ago. It was perfect, I am sure of it! However, it was perfect for them. This might not be the case for you. For example, eucalyptus used to be a lot more cost effective 10 years ago, however, it is in such popular demand now that garlands running down the tables is pretty costly! If a bride who had her wedding 5 years ago mentions how much more cost effective greenery is,it could be a dramatic shift to today’s realm. To make your wedding unique to you, you’ll have to find things that are applicable to your wedding happening now or even a year from now.
As a couple, you have made your “favorite spot”, have your favorite songs, and been through experiences together that no one else will understand. Let these moments feed into who you are as a couple. Then have this inspire your wedding. My favorite thing to hear on a wedding day is “this is so us”! Maybe it’s having a ceremony that is traditional to your distant cultures to remind you of where you come from. Maybe it’s dancing in the rain at the end of the night just to be in love with the moment – rain or shine. Or maybe it’s finding peace in knowing that the color palette you chose was a direct reflection of YOU.
We had a bride last year who told us that she wanted every color of the rainbow for her wedding palette. At first, it took us by surprise! “That’s a lot of color”, we thought. Then, after getting to know the bride and groom, it made total sense! Their personalities were so electric, so bright, that you immediately wanted to be their friend. They brought forth such a unique look to their wedding, because it was a direct reflection of them.
Have a firm grip on the look you want, or at least a direction to follow. Your vendors are so creative, so allowing them to help you will only make it that much more beautiful in the end. They want you to look at your wedding album and say “wow, we were in love with our wedding day”! They’re going to do everything under the sun to make your wedding unique to you.
Our job as planners, vendors, designers, etc. is to make your day the BEST DAY EVER for you! We pour our heart and soul into your wedding, almost as much as you do. Dream with you. Feel the love/hate relationship that you have for your wedding planning process. We are here to be utilized. Help us help you create the day of your dreams. We know budgeting tactics, we know design elements that aren’t used enough, and we know just how to combine those to make it all seamlessly come together.
